The dragons, in particular, look great and some of the environments are legit ‘stop-and-look-around’ beautiful. The pixel art visuals are in a similar vein, but even better than Stardew Valley, and there are a few really cool animations to enjoy as well. Unlike other similar games, Sun Haven takes place in a fantasy world, complete with knights and mages, dragons, elves, demons, and monsters.

Elves, Demons, Monsters, Dragons, and um… CropsĪs is typical of the genre, you play as a newcomer to a quiet, pleasant town full of fun, quirky characters to meet, befriend, and even wed – in this case, the namesake town of Sun Haven – where you’re quickly set up in a small farmhouse with some land to start off your farming. Sun Haven is a farming sim/fantasy RPG hybrid developed and published by Pixel Sprout Studios, now out in Early Access on Steam. Plus, waiting to see if I got accepted to this Masters program I had applied to and not knowing what I’d do if I didn’t get in, I was on pins and needles for about a month and desperately craving for a simpler alternate life to lose myself in (heck, I even installed FF14! You know when you resort to time sinking MMOs something’s horribly wrong). The last time I played one of these was back in June of last year when I reviewed Summer in Mara, so I was definitely overdue for some gaming rest and relaxation. Games like Moonlighter, Graveyard Keeper, My Time at Portia, Spiritfarer, Summer in Mara (my favorite of these), and of course, the ever-influential title that single-handedly started off the genre’s resurgence, Stardew Valley, are the safe havens I take shelter in when even a couple rounds of Hades seems like too much effort (the gaming equivalent of not being able to get out of bed). It goes without saying then, that I’m a fan of farming/life sims as well.

Just have conversations with NPC's and get to know them and fill up their heart bar.I’m a huge fan of anything zen in games – from pretending fast-travel doesn’t exist in Skyrim or Ping as a taxi driver in GTA, to intentionally zen titles like the underwater exploration game Abzu, the original Strand-type game Mudrunner and its sequel Snowrunner, to the indie darling A Short Hike- these are what I play to unwind after a stressful day or when my anxiety picks up. Those that don't know you find a fish shadow in the water wait for a big splash not the small nibbles. You will get taught the basics when you first visit the Sun Haven beach, but essentially it's the same system as Animal Crossing New Horizons. It's simple just explore and pick up items from the ground, shake trees, or gather mushrooms off the trees with E you can also break pots in the mine. To progress through the mines you need to craft a corresponding key or find a rusty key hidden in the rocks. To the very right of the map you will gain access to the mine, to break rocks left click with your pick axe. Hover over the spell to see it's mana cost.

To use the spells push the assigned button either Q or R. You have two spell slots and once you gain a spell to assign it a slot hover over the 2 Purple Sun circles above the bar a menu should pop up. If you go their for the first time you'll get fishing. Left click with your sword or bow to deal damage to foes, a good place to start is going to the right side of the beach. The pet food is for animals that have a food bar it'll go down and you just push e to feed or if you aren't holding food e to pet.
Once you acquire them go to the pet store where you can by pet food and pets. So you want some cows and chickens? Well first go give Kitty a visit and out the front of her house you will see pens with cows and chickens for sale. Note the hoe can make a field but also right click to turn the field to grass. Once done you will need to water with the watering can until it grows then harvest with a Scythe.
With Farming you use a hoe on grass to turn it to a field where you can then place a seed on it.
